It was 7:00 and we were back at our hotel, eating our tea. The incident with the car
had not been spoken of since we arrived back. What we ended up doing was: going
really fast round that corner and zooming back to the hotel. It turned out the other
car wasn't there at all, so we could have gone as slow as we wanted. Gwen sat next to
me at the small wood table covered in a white and blue tablecloth. I had chicken soup
and some salad (I'm trying to stay slim), Gwen had spag bol and Ella had lasagne.
Gwen sipped her drink and looked over at me.
"What are you looking at me for?" I tried to say not sounding mean.
"Nothing," she said quickly, putting her glass down.
"Are you still nervous about that man?" I whispered, leaning across to her so no one
could hear. She nodded, biting her nails.
"He doesn't even know who we are, let alone which hotel we're staying at," I told
Ella sighed and sat back in her chair. "Well, I'm done. I'm going to go back up to
the hotel room and have a shower."
"Ok," I nodded back at her. Gwen smiled, suddenly her usual self.
"Don't you wanna come up too?" she asked me, as she rose from her chair.
"Why would I do that?" I asked, confused.
"Because you're going to be sat here eating alone..." said Gwen, as if it was the
most obvious thing in the whole world. Was it?
"Oh, yeah. I suppose I will then."
I got up too and followed Gwen up the stairs. Our room was quite high up, so we had
to walk quite a way. When we arrived back in the room, I sat down on my bed. I could
hear Ella in the next room, having a shower. Gwen smiled at me.
"Yeah. Who expected us to be bored in America?" I grinned.
Gwen laughed. "I know."
"Don't you fancy going to a nightclub?" asked Ella, popping her head round the door.
"With that crazy man on the loose, no way," Gwen said.
I knew who I agreed with.
"So, what are we going to do? I mean, we can't go to bed yet."
I sighed. "Well, how about going for a walk down to an amusement park or something?"
"Yeah, OK." Ella and Gwen agreed. I slipped on my high heels and pulled on my coat.
"Well," I said. "Coming?"
