Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why. the one i'm working on at the moment, T.F.A.W.G because it's so fucking massive and complicated and there's so many branches off it and aw man it's gonna be so good when it's finished How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females? not including parents, 41 How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)? um sometimes i nick names or surnames from people i know or people i've heard about and sometimes i go through baby names websites to find one that fits the character i have in mind Tell us about one of your first stories/characters! the first "novel" i wrote was about a girl called eira who grew wings when she was thirteen and found out she was part of a group of teenagers with magic abilities. i wrote it when i was eleven and it was pretty terrible and very unoriginal but it was good because i proved to myself that i could actually set out to write something and finish it. it was sixteen chapters long in the end and took me a long time to write. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them? tyler easom is my youngest character, he's two years old the oldest character in terms of when i created them is sort of lenore hunter, in that i had the original idea for a female character called lenny when i was about fourteen, but the only thing about her that's the same now is her name and the fact she has long blonde hair so it's probably more true to say that johnny mavers is my oldest character, i thought of him when i was sixteen and he was the starting point for literally everything i've written since god bless johnny c: the most recent character i've created is uhh, wow i have no idea probably the whole de luca family Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper? alone in a room with lots of windows when it's raining with a black pen and some blank printer paper Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters? no i have to be in complete silence but sally cinnamon by the stone roses can and is related to sally moon (that is the basis of the character yo) and i dunno, a lot of lyrics can be applied to different characters What's your favorite genre to write? To read? realistic drama stuff, to write to read i like books about bands, like biographies and documentary writing How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them. um well if i take the idea of johnny, i thought of him when i was reading "Brothers: From Childhood To Oasis" by Paul Gallagher which is, in part, about how noel, liam and paul gallagher had a shitty, abusive childhood. so i took that idea and applied it to a character who became johnny. from there i created johnny's family, then johnny's best friend, cas, and cas' family. then elise, the girl who fancies johnny, and her family and so on and on and on until you have a big inter-twining map of characters c: What are some really weird situations your characters have been in? Everything from serious canon scenes to meme questions counts! dale eating a spider will always be my favourite Who is your favorite character to write? Least favorite? i like writing about digby, sally, poppy and dale the most i don't really like writing about debbie or carlo In what story did you feel you did the best job of worldbuilding? Any side-notes on it you'd like to share? "brothers" argh it's the best thing i've written in every aspect, the atmosphere was perfect for what i wanted to capture What's your favorite culture to write, fictional or not? modern british working class yo How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us? almost everything i write is set nottingham where i live so i'll normally pass a place and make a mental note of it and use google maps to work out exact addresses and names for characters' houses, schools, workplaces etc Midway question! Tell us about a writer you admire, whether professional or not! paolo hewitt! he is my absolute favourite writer, he's so inspiring and unassuming and talented and he's the writer who made me realise that firstly, writing can be rock'n'roll lmao and secondly, that i should definitely do it for a living. he's a million times cooler because of his knowledge of music and the fact he's mates with, and has written books about, noel and liam gallagher. also he's a spurs fan and he uses all my favourite words and ugh he just has such a perfect way of putting things. when i was fourteen i listened to (what's the story) morning glory, the oasis album, all the way through by myself for the first time. when champagne supernova came on, i sat on my bedroom floor and read the sleeve notes paolo hewitt had written at the back of the sleeve booklet. i literally sobbed and re-read those paragraphs and re-played that song for about an hour because it was the first time i'd ever been overwhelmed by music and overwhelmed by written words. that's the moment i kind of found the things i really love and discovered the things that would shape the choices i made in the future, however gay and dumb that sounds. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how “far” are you willing to go in your writing? yeah i do, i write a lot of nc17 gay fanfic lmao i'm willing to go as far as i think the story i'm writing needs? like for a smutty fanfic people just read it for the smut so yay extra detailed pornographic scenes but for short stories i normally leave it at a few sentences because it's not essential to the storyline "brothers" has my favourite ever sex scene i've ever written in it because it's so cringey and weird and not romantic at all and it worked really well, i think, because it's when rhys loses his virginity so ye idk Favorite protagonist and why! dale! because he's so nice argh what a babe he's so cute and gullible and nice to everyone Favorite antagonist and why! jordan because he's such a caricature of some people i went to school with and it makes me laugh Favorite minor that decided to shove himself into the spotlight and why! sally, because she was originally meant to be an old friend of cas' who moved away and he missed a lot but was never actually mentioned and then she got changed into cas' girlfriend and ye she's cool because she's so outrageous What are your favorite character interactions to write? poppy and dale because cute and a lot like me and all my male friends Do any of your characters have children? How well do you write them? melissa is tyler's mam but they're background characters, they've never actually come up in anything yet Tell us about one scene between your characters that you've never written or told anyone about before! Serious or not. jimmy and digby go to st ives to stay with jimmy's aunt and it's fun i'm going to write this eventually so i won't say anymore?? How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)? uh let's say it's a short story, it'd normally take me a day to write the first draft, then leave it for two weeks, then another day to type it up and edit it and then re-reading and re-editing any time i post it/send it off to anywhere How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What's the most interesting way you've killed someone? mickey dies by jumping in front of a train (yes i'm willing to kill characters wah one of my favourites dies in T.F.A.W.G but i won't say anything about it soz) Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them. jordan has a rottweiler called worm there's really nothing else to say about that Let's talk art! Do you draw your characters? Do others draw them? Pick one of your OCs and post your favorite picture of him! i don't draw my characters, neither does anyone else (although that would be cool?!?!) i don't have any pictures to post Along similar lines, do appearances play a big role in your stories? Tell us about them, or if not, how you go about designing your characters. yes i have really clear pictures of how all my characters look in my head Have you ever written a character with physical or mental disabilities? Describe them, and if there's nothing major to speak of, tell us a few smaller ones. not really, debbie has depression but w/e that just makes her extra boring to write about i hate debbie lmao How often do you think about writing? Ever come across something IRL that reminds you of your story/characters? all the time, every day, constantly?? Final question! Tag someone! And tell us what you like about that person as a writer and/or about one of his characters! idk anyone here so if you read this and you wanna do it then i tag you
