We had to do an exercise in Health. It was an imagery exercise, and Mrs. Barrette
had us write down what we thought of when we closed our eyes and saw a calming scene.
Well, here's mine.

I walk through a forest, the light dimming from the sky as night begins falling.  I
follow the soft sound of flowing water to a small waterfall. I place a small, silky
blanket on a flat rock, sitting down cross-legged on it. I close my eyes for a
moment, listening to the trees sway and the water fall gently into a small pool. I
open my eyes after a while, looking around at the beautiful sight. I watch as the
baby blues of the sky turn to deep, majestic purples and pinks. The water is a clear
blue, and has a beautiful silver glow. I slowly trace my gaze around to the
surrounding trees. The deep reds and yellows become a darker more calm color in the
growing shadows. The rising moon casts a silver glow all around me, making the water
glimmer with appearing stars. I take a deep breath and smell the musty autumn air and
the water from the waterfall. I lay down on the deep blue, silky blanket and watch
the waterfall again. As the water falls, it creates a pearl-white foam in the pool
below. Some dried leaves drift into the pool, like little boats. They create small
ripples, only adding to the soft glimmer of the moon and stars. A soft wind blows
gently through my hair, and I breathe in, smiling softly. I open my mouth to take
another deep breath, tasting the strong scent of the musty air again. I run my hand
over the blanket again, then onto the cool, smooth rock. My hand then drifts into the
glowing water, skimming the top. I submerge my hand, letting the water drown it
within the cold, clear depths. After a few minutes, I withdraw my hand and place it
back on the rock. The wind continues to blow through my hair. I close my eyes again,
letting the sounds of the forest and waterfall fill me. The soft singing of night
birds and rustling leaves makes a smile cross my lips. The soft gurgle and mild crash
of the waterfall is enough to lull someone to sleep. I open my eyes, now somewhat
drowsy. I skim my hand over the pool again as the silver glow grows more intense as
the moon and stars get higher. My body is bathed in a soft, silvery glow, and I draw
little designs on the surface of the water. Not long after, I draw my hand back to
the blanket and lay down, mist off the water rising and cooling my face. I smile and
slowly drift off to sleep.
I wake up a few hours later. I look around to see the serene purples and silvers I
had fallen asleep with. I stretch and smile. I gather up my blanket and stand. I take
one last look at the waterfall before starting my long walk home. I feel calm, and
look forward to the days ahead.
