Come on, let's be honest. I had to write this diary entry sooner rather than
later. I just love BIGBANG!!
Daesung, Seungri, G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P
Literally, they are my favourite band right now, and have been since I so fortunately
discovered them in January this year, after first stumbling across G-Dragon's solo
work when scanning the Interwebz for awesome Asian artists.
These guys literally have it all: catchy music, iconic fashion styles, amazing lyrics
and videos, awesome hair and GOD-DAMN BEAUTIFUL FACES. I have to admit though, that
my favourite two BIGBANG crushes have to be T.O.P and GD, because... well, have you
seen T.O.P's eyes?! THEY SMOULDER. And GD has a smile only to die for. It only gets
better that GD and T.O.P released a collaberation album in 2009, just of themselves.
I melted and went to heaven.
They've got really big recently, seeing as they've just returned from a "break" year
to do solo work - some of GD's material I disocvered first, which led me to BIGBANG.
Their solo stuff is just as amazing as their group work, but they way they all get on
so well as a group (GD and T.O.P have snogged plenty times!), means that you can't
help just grin like a maniac when you watch them all together. I'd like to point out
that their dynamic as a group is only highlighted in the numerous drama spoofs
they've reinacted, in which GD is always the effeminate guy lead/girl, and T.O.P the
dashing, sexy male lead... which always results in more than one on screen snog. Yes,
I ship real life people.
Daesung, G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, Seungri
Their latest releases, or at least those since their break last year, are certainly
their best, and if you compare the very simple and beautiful "Love Song" to some of
their original work, such as "La La La", you can see how far they've truely
progressed as a group. Let's be honest - Korean music is taking over the world - for
those less knowledgeable about music beyond their own countries, the Japanese music
industry is the second biggest in the world (behind America), but the Korean industry
is rapidly catching up; bands such as Wonder Girls, 2NE1, SNSD and SHINee are
examples of artists hitting the far Eastern music scene, as well as the worldwide
scene. 2NE1, a fellow label mate of BIGBANG, a four-piece hip hop girl group, have
recently been recording with will.i.am in the US, and are rumoured to be supporting
the Black Eyed Peas on their next tour. Korean music is beginning its take over, and
BIGBANG is certainly up there with the best of them.
Anyway, here is one of my favourite BIGBANG tracks, the most recent release: "Love
For those unfamiliar with Korean, here's a translation of a little of the
song, just to prove how completely superior Korean G-Dragon's lyrics and song
writing skills are to the crap that is American and English mainstream "music".
The sky is of an expressionless face that holds no answers
You’re probably hiding behind the clouds, you’re probably a star (TOP)
Time, please stop, don’t divide her and I
Wind, stop blowing, this is my last letter to you (GD)
