the day of the winter dance had arrived. at my school, the winter dance was bigger
than homecoming or the prom. everyone was getting all dressed up, and i was very
excited. i was going over to michelle's house with some of our other friends to get
ready. we got dressed first. i loved my dress. it was turquoise with glitter all over
it; it was a halter with an empire waist and it came down a little above my knees.
i was getting nervous about the dance, but i didn't know why. we did our hair after
getting dressed. my hair is naturally straight, so for the dance, i scrunched it and
pulled part of it back. my friends looked great too. as we were sitting around
waiting for the guys to come pick us up for dinner, [[they had rented a limo]]
michelle started asking me about nathan.
"so, how are things with you and nathan?"
"that's good to hear."
i thought she would stop there, but she didn't.
"why do you like him?"
"huh?" i was startled she asked me that question, and i didn't know how to respond.
"well, i mean, he's not very attractive, in fact, he's downright ugly, no offense or
"that was real nice of you." i was really shocked now...who was she to say such
"c'mon, don't you think he's ugly?"
"no." it was true, he wasn't the most gorgeous person ever, but he was still cute.
"well, he is."
"are looks the only thing that matter to you?"
"um, they are kind of important, it's what i first notice about a person."
"so if bryan [[bryan is michelle's boyfriend]] was ugly, would you still be going out
this kind of stumped her. she knew she couldn't say anything.
as she was searching for an answer, the doorbell rang. i jumped up and ran to the
door. nathan, bryan, and two other guys, taylor and logan, were waiting. i smiled at
nathan and told them to come inside. i pulled nathan aside to talk to him.
"hey, you look great!" he said.
"thanks, so do you."
"is everything okay?"
"eh, not really. michelle's mad at me."
"why, what happened?" he seemed so concerned.
"nothing, it was really stupid, i just don't feel like hanging out with them tonight,
if that's okay with you."
"of course, i don't really have a lot in common with the guys either, they're all
into sports and stuff, and i was kind of uncomfortable on the way over."
i hugged him, i was so glad he wanted to leave too.
"ready to go?" michelle asked as she walked into the room. then she saw us hugging,
and made a weird face.
"actually, we're going to go somewhere else, if you don't mind." i said.
"nope, go right ahead."
