The Whistle blew, and I was off. A boy started rubbing his tires on to mine, and I
fell over, I pulled my bike up, and sprinted to the head of the group, making sure I
cut all of the girls. It was raining, and I was soaked even before I got into the
single track. I saw a single track. I struggled to lower my gears- my hands were
freezing cold even in my gloves. Up a muddy hill. The first few drops of mud landed
on my face, and on my legs... When I thought the laps couldn't get any longer, it
did. The lap was close to 2 miles each, and I was huffing and puffing all the way
through the single tracks. A good chance! A boy from my team was riding at a very
slow pace in front of me. I quickly cut him and sprinted ahead so he couldn't cut me.
That was only my first lap, and I was totally covered in mud. When I passed the team
tent, I grabbed a water bottle out of someones hand, drank half of it, and rode up
the hill.I rode into the single track, but my heavy tires slowed me down. I rode up a
giant hill, but I started sliding down close to the top. I quickly jumped off my bike
and pushed it up the hill. What a mess! My sneakers were getting mud INSIDE of them.
Ahh!!!! A giant hill. I flew off my bike before I climbed to the top of it. My face
had even more mud on it, and now my gloves had the honor of sharing the wealth. The
finish line was only a few meters away. I pushed out all the energy that I could and
passed the finish line. Everyone cheered. I rode to 500watt's group tent and washed
my face with water. I was the only one from 500watt that finished.
