After our little display upstairs, dinner was incredibly akward and tense. At least
for me it was. Ryder just sat there staring off into space the entire time, only
responding to anyone after they repeated everything about ten times. Heather, who I
had met soon after coming downstairs, was an incredibly nice girl. Beautiful, too.
Although, standing next to Jesse, she looks like a midget. The girl couldn't be more
than 5'1, if she's even that. Jesse didn't take his eyes off her the entire meal
though. Which, at any other time, I would have teased him endlessly for later. Now
wasn't really the time for me to laugh at anyone else though, considering the
position I and a certain someone were found in not two hours ago. After Megan had
refused my help with cleaning up, I had wondered out onto the front porch and sat
down in the swing. I've been here ever since, watching the branches of the trees sway
in the autumn breeze. Which is actually quite entertaining when you have nothing
better to do. Go figure.
"I can't believe that you-" Jesse says, following Heather around the side of the
house. He stops when he notices me on the porch swing. "Casey, I didn't see you
"Well, as both you and your brother have pointed out countless times since I got
here, I'm not an easy person to see." I reply with as much dignity as possible. Then,
being the understanding person I am, I stand and walk back into the house, wishing
Heather a good night on my way in the door. So much for enjoying the breeze.
"Hello, Casey dear. We were just getting ready to watch a movie. Would you like to
join us?" Megan asks as she and her husband Clark, who I had also met at dinner,
settle down onto the couch.
"No, thank you. I'm just going to go and see if my friends have emailed me yet." I
decline politely and then turn to leave.
"You'll have to use Ryder's computer. It's the only one with working internet
right now and yours hasn't arrived yet." Clark informs me. I nod and continue on up
the stairs. I stop outside Ryder's door, hoping that he's not in his room at the
moment. I push open the door slightly to reveal a dark room. I let out a sigh of
relief before opening the door all the way and stepping inside, flipping on the
lightswitch by the door. The walls are a surprising dark green, the floor is a
grey-tinted carpet. A full-size bed and a bookshelf line one wall while a computer
desk with a dell sitting on it and a window with a view of the other side of the
property line the one across from it. A chest of drawers sits along the other wall
with a door to what I assume to be a closet.
I cautiously make my way over to the computer sit down at it. When nothing jumps
out at me after a couple minutes, I relax and log onto my email account. Three new
emails. Joy. I open the one from Amanda and sit back in the chair to read it.
Hey, Casey. How's Texas treatin' ya? Just thought I'd check in and see how you were
doing. Write back when you get this please.
I quickly type a reply and then go on to the next one. Before I can finish reading
it though, Ryder walks in, obviously not noticing me sitting here. With one hand he's
drying his hair with a towel and with the other he's looking through his closet. I
stare in wonder at his muscular chest, which to my advantage doesn't have a shirt
covering it. I continue staring for a couple more moments while he continues his
actions. I mean, wouldn't you? And besides, it wasn't doing any harm. As long as he
doesn't- I let out a sharp gasp as he reaches for the button on his jeans. He whirls
around, dropping the towel he'd been drying his hair with.
"What the hell are you doing in my room?" He asks, clearly flustered by my
presence. I shrug and point to the computer, not trusting myself to be able to talk.
We stand there and stare at one another in akward silence for long minutes.
"Ryder, where's-?" Jesse stops as he comes on into the room. He raises an eyebrow,
but doesn't say anything right off. He just stands there, looking from me, to Ryder,
and then back to me again. I groan as I think of how this looks.
"Jesse, we weren't doing anything. I was just-" I stop. What WAS i doing?
"You were just admiring Ryder dearest here. I only came to tell him that Bailey's
comin' over in about an hour. Didn't mean to interrupt." Jesse replies, walking back
out into the hallway after giving Ryder a wink and nodding towards me in a very
suggestive manner. MEN.
