Here's the first in my poetry collection.

On Turning Fourteen
After Billy Collins

The whole idea of it makes me feel
Like hornets in my stomach
Stinging, pelting, and trying to break free
Not like the nice butterflies
That just made my stomach tumble
But monsters trying to escape
Reminding me of all the things I’ll have to overcome
Like high school, college, and soon life
With no way of turning back

I’m told my life is soon to begin
That the best is yet to come
But I can’t help but look back
To the simpler times
Like at four, when I was a princess
And the fort of pillows was to me a castle
Or even when I was six
Teaching my sister how to play in our kingdom
And then on to ten, double digits
Oblivious of the dangers of the world

But now I’m exposed
To all the hurt, the pain
And I want to go back
To the times when life was simple
Filled with good guys and gad guys
And not some in between
I don’t know what might happen
Or where my life could carry me

It seems only yesterday I used to believe
That I was invincible, no one could hurt me
But now I see that though you can’t hurt my soul
My heart is so fragile
It could break any moment
And I admit
I am scared
