At the end of the day,
Taylor and Chad still hadn't made up. Should they have? Troy and Gabriella confirmed
this when they met outside East High School, standing on the steps.
"Have you talked to Chad at all?" Gabriella asked, flicking her hair back.
"Nah, he wanted to be left alone."
"OK, well I better get home. I think my Mom's making dinner early because she said I
have to be back as soon as I get out of school. So, see you."
They had a long goodbye kiss and then broke apart when they saw Sharpay coming out of
the building. Gabriella gave Troy a quick wave, saying "Bye!" and then hurried down
the steps before Sharpay could suspect a thing.
Ryan and Sharpay passed Troy, completely ignoring him. Troy shook his head and then
went down the steps.
The next day dawned as a warm and sunny Saturday morning. Troy pulled on his trainers
and his basketball kit and went downstairs. He grabbed a piece of toast as he passed
through the kitchen and went outside to practice. Half an hour later, Troy was
interrupted by his Mom caling to him.
"What is it?" he asked, following her inside. "Oh, hi Gabriella." He smiled at her.
"Heya," she replied, kissing his cheek. "I see you've been up to some basketball."
"Yeah." Troy grinned, and touched his cheek. "So, what's up?"
"I think Chad and Taylor are thinking about getting back together," she said. "But I
don't know. Taylor phoned me up and had a good long moan last night - but then she
said she wished she could get back together. And then you said that Chad said he
misses her, so I think love is back in the air."
"I think it was already in the air - they just couldn't see it." Troy scratched his
"Troy - you haven't got nits, have you?" said his Mom, popping her head round the
"Shut up, Mom! You're embarrassing me!" Troy said, going red.
Gabriella laughed. "Let's go outside. I don't think your Mom can say anything more
Troy nodded in agreement.
They sat down on the grass, stretching their legs. Troy held the basketball in his
lap, bouncing it gently. He took aim and threw it from where he was sitting. It fell
straight into the basket.
"Woah, you're good!" said Gabriella, laying down.
"I've heard that somewhere before," laughed Troy. "Well, what do you think is going
on between Chad and Taylor then?"
"I hope they are getting back together. I hate it when people hate each other. It
would be so much better if everyone could get along."
"I've heard that before too!" said Troy. "You're the Queen of Repeating!"
Gabriella giggled. "Come on, back to the Taylor and Chad business please."
"I think they should just do this," said Troy, and he kissed Gabriella.
"Well, I don't think it's going to be that easy," said Gabriella, smiling. "Come on,
basketball boy. We need to work a plan."
