How to (Not) Offend LexiCategory: Life

As a general rule, I am not easily offended.

However, I will be quite upset if anyone were to describe me with the following
words. I am listing them here as an official fair warning, because I am not
responsible for what happens to you if you choose to call me these things despite
this warning.

1.) emo
2.) hipster
3.) soft grunge

Some people also have called me "punk" or "goth." While I do not personally identify
as these things, I will not be offended if you call me them. Punk and goth are rad as
fuck, and I like them, although not quite enough to devote my entire lifestyle to
them. A safe way to go is always "alternative" if you need a word to describe someone
who is a little different from the average or typical.

Soft grunge is some tumblr bullshit trying to appropriate grunge and goth into
mainstream culture. And I will have no fucking part in that nonsense.

Hipster has become an umbrella term for anyone who is unique, and that's sad.

Emo is almost as dead as scene these days, but the word is still floating around. I
feel nauseated any time someone tries to associate me with that ridiculousness. I
shower regularly, I don't shop at Hot Topic, I hate the oxymoronic abomination of a
genre known as "pop punk," leave me alone.

@Ambriel

I do know what it means.
And you're right, technically I should have used "appropriation,"
because "cultural appropriation" is different. But I didn't think
anyone would catch that tbh.

You still get the point of what I meant.

I dislike that the word emo is associated with the pop punk scene in
the first place, as they took it wholesale from a different genre.

But whatevs, thats just life.
