"Oh, my gosh! It can't be true! RYAN KEVIN JONES!" Lauren squealed, nearly tearing
apart her homework. She was on the phone with a friend, and they were talking about a
handsome actor named Ryan Kevin Jones. It turned out that he was staying at a hotel
near Lauren's house.
"Yes, it's true!" exclaimed her friend, Elle, on the other line. They both squealed.
Lauren heard a door open and close. "My mom's here, Elle, I have to go. See you!"
"Bye!" Lauren closed her cell phone. Oh my gosh, she thought. Ryan Kevin Jones..is
It was true, Lauren liked Ryan Kevin Jones only because of his looks. He had messy
blonde hair with bright blue eyes, and he was the average height of a 14-year-old
boy. Most girls thought he was perfect: the perfect hair, the perfect eyes, the
perfect clothes, the perfect smile, the perfect actor, the perfect singer. He even
had a sense of humor.
"Lauren..Lauren..Lauren, wake up!"
Lauren grumbled, then opened her eyes. "What, Mom?" she said.
"I need you to go to the grocery store and grab some food," replied her mom, waving a
twenty dollar bill and a grocery list in Lauren's face.
Lauren stared at her mother in disbelief. "It's five o'clock in the morning, Mom!"
She pointed at her alarm clock resting beside her bed on a night stand, next to her
lamp. It read 5:00 AM.
"That's because the grocery store is really full at seven!" protested her mom. She
grabbed her daughter's hand and pulled her to her feet. Lauren rubbed her eyes
"Fine, fine." She sighed. "Get out of my room so I can get dressed and stuff."
"Thanks, sweetie," replied her mom, leaving the list and the money on her bed and
exiting the room.
"Yeah, yeah," muttered Lauren.
In a few minutes she was dressed in a gray hoodie, jeans, and plain white sneakers.
She slipped the list and money in her jeans pocket and put on her hood. It was cold,
she could tell. She quickly walked out the house and was on her way to the grocery
Lauren lived in an unexplainable neighborhood. There were houses, and there were
businesses. It's diffucult to describe. It's also difficult to explain why the hotel
where Ryan Kevin Jones was temporarily staying had a lot of people staying in it and
it was at a bad location. Lauren lived at what was somewhat a hill. The hotel was
three blocks away, and the store she was headed was five blocks.
Lauren shivered as she walked. It's so cold, she thought. This is pure
"Hello, Lauren," said Annabelle, the daughter of the owner of the grocery store. "Why
are you up so early?"
Lauren took the grocery list out of her pocket and waved it in the air. "My mom woke
me up to get some groceries."
"Oh, I can help you with that, so you can go camp out with your friends outside that
hotel," laughed Annabelle.
"You know about that?!" exclaimed Lauren, staring at Annabelle.
Annabelle scoffed. "I'm twenty one, Lauren, I'm still young, you know!" She ruffled
Lauren's hair and grabbed the list from her. Then she grabbed a shopping basket.
"Hmm..," said Annabelle.
In a few minutes, Lauren had bought everything her mom needed. "Thanks a bunch,
Annabelle!" she said, leaving the store and waving. Annabelle smiled and waved back.
Lauren switched the bag of groceries from her right hand to her left hand. "Boy, this
is a heavy bag," she muttered to herself. She was approaching Hotel Laroche, the
hotel where the celebrity Lauren went fangirl over was staying. She closed her eyes,
daydreaming. She smiled and tucked a of her brunette hair behind her ear.
She fell on the floor. She opened her eyes. Standing over her was a boy, about
fourteen, with messy blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
He said, "I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
