Sometime in October
During the trials and trepidations
throughout and within and even
under my fingernails
They want to fix me
they’ve got the cure
this time for sure
It’s so surreal
Just a normal day
I didn’t make myself this way
I self-medicate
I self-educate
If this is the answer
tell me why so many are already dead
a thousand buried
the wrong names above their heads

This is me
and this is what you see
This is me
and this is what you see
And this is me
but the me you’ll never see

Your children are fending
for themselves in this world
trying to navigate
We are people
not the living embodiment of your ideals

She used to dream about being a mermaid
She used to imagine she was an actress
She used to dream about being a mother
The illusion fades when she’s undressed

This is me
and this is what you see
This is me
and this is what you see
And this is me
but the me you’ll never see

If this is the answer
why are so many already dead
tell me why she’s buried
with the wrong name above her head
