Jenny and Adam became close friends. They sat together at lunch, were always
partners on class assignments, they even hung out past 8 on school nights. Jenny soon
forgot about her incident with Matt and slowly began to move on.
One spring day on a monday afternoon at school in the quad, Jenny sat at an empty
table, reading. Someone tapped her on her shoulder from behind. It was Adam.
"Hey!" She smiled at him, putting her book aside.
He sat down next to her, shaky.
"Why are you so jumpy today?" She asked him, giggling.
"The Spring Fling is coming up and I dont have a date." He said, nervouse and
"Oh my god, you boys are so dumb. Just ask out the girl you like!" She rolled her
eyes at him.
"Well, see, the thing is, she doesnt like me back." He answered her, tapping his
fingers annoyingly on his school books.
"Still worth the shot." She said to him, opening her book again.
As it became silent, she began to read again.
"Would you go to the dance with me, Jenny?" Adam asked her, out of the silence.
He starred into her eyes, which were looking off into space. He waited for an answer
as she just sat there, shocked.
"Me?" She asked, putting her book away again.
"Yes You." He chuckled.
"Why Me?" She asked, confused. Trying to force away the smile that was growing out of
her too quickly.
"I like you." He smiled to her.
She turned her head to him and smiled back. "No thank you." She squinted her eyes and
then quickly stood up and walked away.
He chased after her, calling her name.
"What? No thanks? What, you already got a date of somethin?" He asked her and they
stood, facing eachother outside the school.
"No, I'm not going." She answered him, brushing her bangs out of her face.
"Why? It'll be fun!" He smiled to her, stuffing his hands in his front pockets.
"I cant dance. Dont you know that?" She said to him, while laughing a small bit.
"Neither can I! Neither can half the school. Comeon. We dont have to dance, we can
just hang out." He tried to convince her.
"I would say yes, but I have nothing to wear." Jenny began to make up excuses.
"Comeon, this isnt prom. Noones gonna spend 300$ on dressing up and shit." He
explained to her.
"When is it?" She asked, looking down to the ground.
"This Friday Night." He smiled to her.
"I'm Busy." She lied straight to his face.
"Oh." Adam said, understanding.
Jenny began to feel bad.
Adam began to walk away. He walked to his car and drove off back to home.
Jenny walked home.

Friday ((night of the Spring Fling))
It was 6:00 at night. The Spring Fling began in an hour.
Jenny lied on her bed, reading her book while listening to her iPod.
She couldnt stop starring at the clock though.
She stood up off her bed and walked over to her closet. There in the middle of
clothes was a formal, light pink dress. A beautiful dress that was tight at the waist
and up and poofed out below the waist. She pulled it out of her closet and starred at
it. She changed into it. She starred at herself in the mirror, deciding if to go to
the Spring Fling.
She put on white high heels and strapped them tight. She straightened and curled her
hair quickly, then after, she put on light makeup.
She was soon ready to go. She left the house and ran over to Adams house.
She knocked on the door, 3 times.
"Whoa. Dont you look nice?" He studied each detail of what she was wearing.
"Thanks. Hey, get dressed." She said to him, bossy.
"Why?" He asked, laughing.
"Were going to that dance." She smiled.
"I have a better idea." He smiled.
By the door he put on his shoes and then he walked out the door with Jenny.
They walked down the sidewalk, 6 blocks to the park.
"Why'd you take me here?" She asked, walking next to him.
The park was empty and cold.
He took her hand as they walked out into the grass.
He put his arms around her waist and he put her arms around his neck, and they began
to sway back an forth.
"What are you doing?" Jenny asked him, smiling, trying not to giggle.
"Noones here. We can dance." He smiled at her, looking into her brown eyes.
"But theres no music." She giggled.
"We can make some then." He said to her.
They began humming a tune of a song by Paramore. We Are Broken.
She rested her head on his shoulder. They were leaning against eachother.
"Forgetting about Matt?" Adam asked her in her ear.
She froze. Then soon, she ran away, out of the park, down the 6 blocks and back home.
The night was almost perfect.
