Muffin the Golden Hamster sat sollemly in his small cage. Sarah, his eight year old
owner, forgot to feed him AGAIN. While Muffin shivered in his cold burrow, Taffy, the
turtle from the nearby aquarium, slid off of her rock and landed with a small plop
into the shallow water.
About an hour later, Sarah burst through the door and ran upstairs. She fed Chirp,
her two-year old cocatoo first, then moved over to Muffin's cage.
"Here's some food, Muffin!" Sarah said, opening the tiny metal-barred door to his
cage. Before she could put in any sunflower seeds, the doorbell rang.
In a haste, Sarah ran off, accidentally leaving the Muffin's cage open.
Muffin climbed out and tumbled to the ground, unhurt by the fall. He waddled quietly
over to Taffy's floor aquarium.
"Hello!" squeaked Muffin. She banged on the glass twice, and soon got Taffy's
"Okay, climb up the ladder and get me out!" Taffy shouted through the thick glass.
Next to Taffy's aquarium sat a small plastic step stool, and Muffin climbed on top of
it and slid the cover of the aquarium onto the carpet. Taffy climbed out.
Both were free.
