Hopefully this will be short and to the point.
Yup, Easter is about Jesus coming back to life as the pivotal miracle to prove he was
who he said he was. But that isn't the theme of this entry.
Bill called up a few people (never warns anyone when he does this) They were Ben,
Michael, Kent, and Marva.
Bill to Ben "how about you put your arm up like you're flexing it for us and hold it
Bill to everyone "This is how Ben's life used to be. Star quarter back, jock,
popular, he could do anything by himself and with his own strength."
*Bill puts Ben's arm down and puts his hands over his heart* "This is who is now.
Not using his arms first but his heart. He's realized there is much more he can
accomplish with this muscle *points to heart* than these. *points to arms*
Bill to Michael "Could you lower your head for me?"
Bill to everyone "This is how Mike used to be. He's probably wondered why it took so
long for him to give his heart to God, and I hope that he has made peace with his
Bill to Mike "Can you look forward?"
Bill to everyone "This is who he is now. Not focusing on self, not focusing on the
present, but looking to others and to the future."
Bill to Kent "I've known you to have once been like Ben. A strong man who felt like
he could do anything with his own strength." (Kent requires a cane ever since an
accident that permanently damaged his knee)
Bill to everyone "This is him now, and that cane is a cross. He's learned that every
day he's to lean on Jesus. Because its not about what we can do under our own power,
but what HE can do through us. As imperfect as we are, he can use any one of us
Bill to Marva "I'm sorry to bring this up, and I know it is the most painful memory
you have. Would you cross your arms for me?"
Bill to Everyone "Here's how Marva used to be. She was content, stagnant where she
was and comfortable and self sustained. And then she gets a phone call that her
husband has died in a parking lot of heatstroke and her comfort is shattered." *Bill
takes Marva's arms, uncrosses them and raises her hands* "This is Marva today. She
lives for the Lord and he is using her for wondrous things. As the song says
"Blessed be your name. On the road marked with suffering, though there's pain in the
offering, blessed be your name."
Everyone who's given their life to God has a story. It may not be as drastic or
radical as these, mine is very mundane. But your testimony on how God has changed
your life can be an amazing thing to share with others.
(I know it seems Bill went out of his way to call people up and introduce their big
failures and sad events, but I ask that you not allow yourself to be angry. These
are their stories and they need to have no fear in sharing them. There is absolutely
no shame in acknowledging who we used to be. It will be painful, but that pain
further contrasts how God has changed us. How he has provided and will provide.
Even if your story is like mine and isn't finished yet, you can still share.)
