Why school should be re-examained.Category: The science of adolecence

At differnt ages human children, and indeed yound great apes and general, are meant
to learn differnt things. At adolecence we are suppose to be learning social skills.

The we spend anywhere between 5-9 hours at school being told off for talking. Emo's
are exelent people, but every once in a while you get a person in this generation who
feels the need to harm or kill themselves to escape the pain of their lives. Which is
generaly considerd bad.

I think schools are to blame.

further more, the school system complains that grades are dropping do to students not
getting enough sleep. Well duh, we'd get enough if we didn't need to wake up so early
to catch the bus.

But rather then adress the flawed system they created, schools choose to tell
parents to force their teens to go to bed earlier.

Great solution, except adolecence are hard wired to automaticly stay up late and wake
up toward afternoon. when i say late i dont mean 9:00pm. i mean like 12:30am, or
2:00am.

Also, while our parents grew up in a age when homework was whatever your teachers
didnt have time to cover in class that day. Now we walk in, and our teacher already
know that we need to do 3 assignments on our own time. Then they act as if doing
homework in class is some specil treat that we dont appreciate.

oh and also... Did you know a C is supposed to be average? So parents scold you for
getting a B- when that is actuly quit a bit above average.

And they teach us to think a certain way. When you Learn about the American
Revolution, the teachers, maybe without even knowing it, set up the assignments so
that you think the colonists should have killed thousands of people because tea and
paper was over prized.

Basicly I think we need to improve and upgrade the school system, without the biased
teachings, the unnatural schedualing, the automatic work-over load, and over negitive
side offects of the average American education.

middle school.

Kids, teens, and pre- teens now think that grades
mean your smart.

Ex.
Nieve person: Whats your average?
mature person:76%
Nieve person: wow your dumb.
mature person: why do you say that?
nieve person:... well you got a C.
mature person: ... i didnt ask "what are my grades" i asked "why do
you think im dumb"
nieve person: wow you are dumb. i got an A, im smart.
mature person: glad to hear about your A. why do you say your smart?
nieve person: i got an A.

this goes on, and on. as you can see this person (nieve person) is not
smart. Im not sayign all A students are idiots. I would even go as far
as saying that many of them are quit bright. Im just saying grades dont
determain that.

Ok, ready for this, school is not about learning.
If you can read and write, and do some basic math you are educated.
School and College are both about obedience.
So having a hs diploma and a degree in something says you attended
class, completed work and followed through, you will probably make a
decent enough employee for a company to hire.
You will work until the last 5 years of your life, do almost nothing,
then die.

or you can live what is considered a hard life, work a minimal amount,
live life and maybe die doing it

I agree. I think the media is also to blame. You know Barry Bonds,
and how he's hated by everyone now? but notice all the other people
who used steroids, and how, since the media loves them, nobody
mentions them! Is that really fair? I think this generation should do
something about it. School... Let's see, when will I need the equation
'y=mx+b'? How about... NEVER! Unless you're a math teacher or a
student worried about failing a test, then I don't think you need it.
School is like... :P

I'm getting like... 3 b's and 4 a's. -shrugs- I consider that pretty
good, considering I'm in a math class that is mega advanced (not to
brag), such as 8th grade math, when I myself am only in 6th. School is
just dumb. I don't understand why we need to go there. Why can't we
all be farmers like the old days? Why don't we actually work for our
own family, and all just mind our own business? I don't really
understand what people call logic anymore. I just don't speak that
language.

Look, I'm not a big fan of getting up early, And some things seem
useless when you learn them.
I don't agree on this statement: "adolecence are hard wired to
automaticly stay up late and
wake up toward afternoon. when i say late i dont mean 9:00pm. i mean
like 12:30am, or 2:00am." We don't naturally stay up that late. It's
just that most of us watch TV or stay on the computer instead of going
to sleep. We are able to go to sleep earlier than that, but instead,
we complain.

actually it's proven science. Young adultsnaturally stay up late and
wake up late because of the role of people our age in natural
settings.

I think the main reason we don't actually sleep that late is because
parents force us to go to bed. Well, mine do at least. And I find
that if I go to bed by eleven, I'll wake up by nine at the latest.

Despite my 88% average, (and people are always asking me why this is)
I find school to be totally useless. There's this kid in my class
whose average can't be higher than 65%, but is one of the smartest,
most creative kids I know.
Aside from the actual subjects, nothing that happens in school is
carried into the real world. All of the political correctness they
teach you, the huge push to be academically perfect... it doesn't
matter in the real world.
The public school system is shoving conformity down young children's
throats and forcing us to be what they want us to be, not what
we want to be. It's ridiculous.

Oh, and when you said 'Nieve person,' it's spelt 'naive,' but I find
this humourous because Nieve (actually Niamh, but whatever) is Gaelic
for spirit. Shoulda been the other kid!

you make a lot of good points here about education. however since you
have a misspelling in your title...re-examined

and throughout your diary entry, it sadly poses an irony regarding
your commentary on education and schooling

@Oroborus21
I know... I wrote this years ago, and only keep it out of nostalgia.
Although it really does get touch to concentrate when I have to wake
up at five if I want time for breakfast.
