*** We close our lockers and head for the nearest stairway. The walk is silent, well, at least between us it is. “So, how are you getting home?” I ask him. “My parents are supposed to be picking me up. I’ll call them right now.” He says, stopping over by the wall. I go and stand next to him. As he’s on the phone, I watch the people who walk by. We have so many different people in this school; it’s hard to keep up with most of the group sometimes.

I would like to dedicate this part to Michaela (Crescent_Darkness). She has been waiting since FOREVER for me to post something.. On to the story... We walk to the cafeteria and stand in line. I notice a group of girls, cheerleaders, are looking at Julian. “Looks like someone’s becoming the center of attention.” I whisper to him. He looks at me, showing that he didn’t know what I was talking about. I nod my head

I hear the sound of the intercom beeping. I tune it out; continuing on with my work, thinking about what Alex told me earlier. The teacher calls on me. I look at her expectantly; taking in her clothes for the first time that day. The same as always. A black pencil skirt, with a white blouse and black heels. Boring. Someone should introduce her to Stacey and Clinton from What Not To Wear. That fashion show on TV. The one where they throw out just about all of the person’s clothes. She should be on there. “You’ve been called to the office.” Ms. Dillards says with a tone that suggests that I may be slow. I nod, walking up to the front of the classroom and grab the yellow, worn out, what should have been laminated, hall pass.

He sits here crying. I hold onto him tight. He pours his heart out to me, letting go of all his pain. I sit there comforting him, listening to him, wishing he didn't have to have all of this pain. He tells me he wish he was loved. I tell him I love him, but he just shakes his head and says, "No, not that kind of love. Love as in someone who cares for me, who loves me, someone who I will spend the rest of my life with. That kind of love." I nod, understanding what he means. I silently wish I had it too. He continues to spill his heart out as I sit there watching. He repeats how much everyone's turned their backs on him, how it hurt him so bad. This has been going on for over a year now. Once, he's tried to kill himself. I stopped him. Told him I'll be there for him. Ever since, we've had these meetings here in this abandoned hallway

I'll have to admit. I'm kind of nervous meeting someone I don't know. What would they want to do with me? Why talk to me now? All too soon I reach Wal-mart. Great. I stand in front of the building against the wall making it look like I'm waiting for someone. Well, actually I am but who has to know that? I feel someone looking at me. I start to glance around then I see five people in a group looking at me, heading straight towards me. I'm assuming they're the ones that wanted to meet me. So I stand up straight as they get closer. They're wearing the usual preppy clothes like everyone else in the school. "Hey. I'm Rachel, this is Ashlee, Alex, Dylan, and Ayden."

"Watch where you're going, freak!" I just ignore the comment and continue on my way. I ignore the stares. They're not good to me. They don't help in any way. I walk into the classroom and sit in my regular seat. The back corner. I can see everyone in the classroom. Sitting back here allows you to watch others closely, without them knowing. I sit back here writing, not paying attention to the teacher. But they don't seem to care anyway. Besides, my work is top notch. I have the highest grades in my year, but what's the point in bragging about them? It would be nice to find other people like me. People who could be themselves without worrying about what others would say. Maybe I haven't looked in the right place.

A darkness surrounds you. It consumes you. You see no way out. You see no light. You see no help. Who would help you anyway? No one. You have no friends. No one cares about you. So you don't expect to get any help. You see the looks people give you. All because you're different. Because you're not like them. But why is it such a bad thing to be different. No one wants everyone to be the same. That would be boring. Just because you choose to dress and act differently doesn't mean you're that different from everyone else. You can't help the way you want to dress. You can't help the things you're into. You're pretty sure you're not the only one like this. Maybe you're the only one brave enough to be different. To stand out. To demand a change. You're challenging the norm. You're going to express who you are. No one is
