Chapter 7 Time Travel
They got home late that night, as soon as they got in they went to bed. In the
morning Lauren patched up a wound that Shadow got from that electrical lightning
thing.
“Ow! I’m fine, I’ll live.” Shadow said.
“Yeah but you’ve got to be careful.” Lauren replied.
Most of the day, Shadow was asleep regaining her strength. The other part of the day
Shadow fixed the front door and paced Lauren’s room.
“Stop worrying, you’re getting me nervous now.”
“Sorry. I can’t help it, not with Sam having the necklace and Harry having the
rock.”
“If only we could go back in time.” Lauren laughed, “yeah, like that would

Lauren climbed onto Shadow’s back and she suddenly felt strange, like the world
was closing in on her. Then the pressure stopped and Lauren fell off Shadow’s
back.
“Lauren are you alright!” Shadow said surprised.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Lauren managed to say, “Where are we?”
“Oops!”
“Shadow! What have you done!” Lauren shouted.
“Sorry! Thinking of the wrong time and place!” Shadow apologised, “I think
were in the Victorian times.”
“What made you think of that?” Lauren shouted.
“I don’t know!” Shadow shouted back.
“Well we might as well look around while we’re here.”
Lauren and Shadow walked round the narrow streets. Lauren nearly got hit by someone
throwing there waste out the window.
“Oi! Watch it!” Lauren shouted behind them, “Shadow, don’t people have
toilets?”
“Not just yet, they just throw it out of the window not bothered if anyone is
there.”
Lauren wondered why no one was staring at a panther walking down the road, but she
didn’t bother to ask because there had to be a good reason why. Lauren was getting
tired of just walking around, she was hoping for some action. It did one night,
around midnight. Some people in long, black cloaks came out one of the houses,
Lauren and Shadow were hiding around a corner watching them. The people looked all
around them and suddenly turned into bats and flew off.
“Shadow, what happened there?” Lauren asked.
“Vampires.”

Shadow quickly started to walk fast.
“Shadow what do you mean by vampires, I thought they didn’t exist!” Lauren
asked trying to keep up with Shadow.
“Well, they do and now you know.”
“So what are we going to do?”
“Try and stop them.”
Lauren and Shadow looked around all night for the vampires, but they never saw
them.
Morning came, Lauren and Shadow were asleep in some hay. Rustling noises woke them
both up, but it was only a little mouse.
“Shadow where did they go?” Lauren asked.
Then they heard screaming which answered Lauren’s question, they saw a crowd of
people. They both pushed to the front and there they saw a woman crying over a man
laid on the floor. Shadow pushed the weeping woman out of the way and looked at the
man. He had two bite marks on his neck, he looked pure white as if he had no blood
left in his body. The woman had stopped crying and was now staring at Shadow.
“I-it was h-her! Look s-she’s got f-fangs.” She shouted.
“No! it wasn’t her. She has been with me all the time!” Lauren shouted back.
Then a man stepped forward and looked at Lauren,
“Are you calling my sister a lair?” The man asked.
“All I’m saying is, Shadow wouldn’t do such a thing.”
A woman stepped forward and said,
“Did you say Shadow.”
Shadow stopped examining the man and looked at the woman who said her name.
“Elizabeth?” Shadow said.
“Shadow! Yeah its me. Come on, lets get out of here.”
Elizabeth led Lauren and Shadow through the crowd, now they could see what Elizabeth
looked like, she had long, platted, blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. She was
wearing a cream and white ballroom dress. Then they went  into a nearby house.
“So Elizabeth, what have you been doing since I left?” Shadow asked.
“Nothing much. I had a husband but he died the same way you just saw out there.
What was it?” Elizabeth replied.
“Vampires. Me and Lauren saw them last night when we came.”
“Yeah, they also turned into bats and flew off!” Lauren added.
“How are we going to get rid of them?” Elizabeth asked.
“That, I don’t know. But I’m working on it.” Shadow answered. 

In the morning Lauren, Shadow and Elizabeth walked round all the houses, while
thinking of how to stop the vampires.
“Oh, I know. You know in films they use garlic to scare them away and a stake to
the heart to kill them!” Lauren said at last.
“What’s a film?” Elizabeth asked.
“Doesn’t matter. Lauren that’s a brilliant idea, the only problem is, where
are we going to get the garlic and stakes from?” Shadow said.
“Well, I’ve got some garlic and we’ll have to get some wood and make some
stakes.” Elizabeth replied.
So for the next few hours they gathered wood, made stakes and collected garlic.
“That should be enough. Lauren can you remember where we saw them?” Shadow
asked.
“Yeah, over there,” Lauren pointed. “lets hide round there and wait for
them.”
Lauren, Shadow and Elizabeth hid behind some barrels and waited for night to fall.
“Lauren, wake up! They’re here!” Shadow said shaking Lauren.
Lauren opened her eyes to find about three people stood where she pointed out.
“Shall we go for them now?” Elizabeth asked.
“Yeah, while they’re still weak,” Shadow replied.
All three of them jumped from behind the barrels and charged at the vampires. One of
the vampires flew off while the other two were too late, they got killed.
“What about the other one?” Lauren asked Shadow.
“He’ll have to come back.” She replied.
Suddenly the vampire appeared from behind Shadow and grabbed her.
“Shadow!” Lauren and Elizabeth shouted.
“Don’t come any closer or I’ll bite her!” The vampire said.
Shadow could feel the vampires long nails pierce her skin. She tried to brake free
but he just tightened his grip. Shadow could feel blood trickling down her arm from
where he had stabbed her with his nails. Lauren started to walk slowly forward.
“I said don’t come any closer. You killed my friends!” The vampire shouted.
“You killed my husband and that man!” Elizabeth shouted back.
“We’re vampires, that’s what we do! So if I can’t have any friends I’ll
have her instead!”
Suddenly the vampire sunk his fangs into Shadow’s neck. Shadow felt a searing
pain, then it stopped. She opened her eyes, she was in a room. There were no lights
on, she then realised she was in a cage. She had the strangest feeling, she wanted
blood, human blood!
“Shadow?” Said a voice.
Shadow spun round and saw Lauren in the moonlight. Shadow jumped at the bars and
tried to reach Lauren. She then realised she couldn’t so she hung upside down and
wrapped her bat-like wings around her.
“Do you think she’ll be okay?” Elizabeth asked.
“Yeah, she’ll be okay, I know she will!” Lauren answered.
Lauren shut the curtains and her and Elizabeth left Shadow downstairs, while they
went to bed.

In the morning Lauren went downstairs to see Shadow, when she opened the curtains
she found Shadow unconscious in the middle of the cage.
“Shadow!” Lauren said rushing forward, “Lizzy come down quick!”
Minutes later Elizabeth came running down stairs, she saw Lauren in the cage beside
Shadow.
“Lauren what’s wrong?” She asked.
“I don’t know, I’ve just found Shadow like this.”
Just then Shadow moved. Lauren jumped back.
“Lauren, please don’t go.” Shadow said weakly.
“Shadow are you ok? Are you still a vampire?” Lauren asked.
“Yeah I’ll be fine. No I’m not a vampire at the moment, its only every full
moon.”
“Lauren help Shadow to your bedroom she can sleep on your bed for now.”
Elizabeth said.
Lauren helped Shadow upstairs and in her room, Lauren then went downstairs for
breakfast.

“How is she?” Elizabeth asked.
“She’ll be fine, just a bit weak.” Lauren answered.
They both had breakfast, then took some up for Shadow. For the rest of the day all
three of them talked about what happened and how to find and kill the other
vampire.
“Lauren, remember when we first met.” Shadow said.
“Yeah, what about it?”
“How come you knew I needed your help when I never said?”
“Well…..? I don’t know, something just told me you needed my help.” Lauren,
“why, is that bad?”
“Yeah, its very bad!”
“Shadow, how can that be bad?” Elizabeth asked.
“Because this means that something can read mine and Lauren’s thoughts. But what
it is, I don’t know.” Shadow replied.
“Can we concentrate on the vampire first.” Lauren said.
“Okay. I’ve got and idea. If I eat some garlic, then find the vampire and give
him a reason to bite me again then once he’s bitten me one of you can finish him
off.” Shadow suggested.
So all three of them planed out every little detail so nothing could go wrong. Then
the following night, when Shadow had got her strength back and got garlic in her
blood stream, they put their plan into action. Shadow waited out in the open while
Lauren and Elizabeth hid round a corner. They waited several minutes then the
vampire landed opposite Shadow.
“How come you’re not dead?” He asked.
“Why, is that what you was trying to do.” Shadow answered, “wanna try
again?”
“No Shadow, don’t!” Lauren shouted.
“Why are you doing this, we don’t want you to die!” Elizabeth said.
“Well if they’re not happy about this I’ll do it!” The vampire said.
He ran at Shadow and grabbed her.
“I like it better when my victims put up a fight!” He said.
Shadow struggled as the vampire sunk his fangs into her neck. Suddenly he let go and
staggered back, falling to the floor. Lauren ran forward with the stake in her hand
and looked down at him.
“Garlic very clever, but I still turned you into a vampire. Go on then kill me!
One last thing, it’s a full moon tonight Shadow!”
Lauren raised the stake but she couldn’t do it. So Elizabeth took the stake from
her and killed him.
“Oh no, the vampire was right it is a full moon look!” Lauren said.
Lauren and Elizabeth looked up to find the moon shinning down on them. They then
looked towards Shadow.
“Oh no!” Elizabeth shouted.
Shadow was stood in the middle of the moonlight. Her fangs were growing longer, she
grew large bat-like wings and her eyes flashed red. Suddenly Shadow lunged at
Lauren, Lauren fell to the floor, Shadow towering over her. Shadow was just about to
bite Lauren’s neck when the world started spinning. They both landed in a clearing
somewhere in a forest. Shadow was again going to bite Lauren when someone on a
motorbike kicked Shadow off of Lauren. Lauren jumped up and looked who was on the
motorbike, it was no one Lauren knew.
“Quickly, get out of here.” He shouted to Lauren.
Shadow ran at the man and threw him to the ground.
“Shadow no!” Lauren shouted.
Shadow looked up.
“Lauren?” She said.
“Can you remember me?” Lauren asked.
Shadow stared at Lauren then flew off.
“You know her?” The man said puzzled.
“Yeah, who are you?” Lauren asked.
“I’m Dave, Dave the vampire slayer."

Chapter 6 The Elements
Lauren woke up early that morning. She stayed in bed and tried to get back to sleep,
but she couldn’t. So she got up and got dressed and read a book. An hour passed
when Shadow finally woke up. Both of them went downstairs for breakfast. They went
back to Lauren’s room and watched TV, then they played a board game, it was a
normal day, nothing out of the ordinary happened. Then at night Shadow showed Lauren
some of the planets that you could see and she showed her some constellations as
well. They went to bed late that night. But the next day Lauren got a letter, it was
addressed to her but it was for Shadow. It was from Jason thanking her for the money.
He also said that before he was sacked he heard Harry saying that he was more
determined than ever to find Shadow. Shadow then explained about what happened in
the lab and all about Jason, the one thing she didn’t tell her was the story about

her home planet that she told Jason all about. The rest of the day was boring. Same
for the rest of the week. Once or twice Sam came round but she never saw Shadow.
Then one day when Lauren came home from the shops she found Shadow sat on her bed
shaking violently. 
“Shadow what’s wrong?” Lauren exclaimed.
“S-Sam, s-she took the necklace! S-she knows what it  i-is .” Shadow stammered.
“WHAT!!!” Lauren screamed.
“Yes. I don’t trust her. There’s something not right about her.”
“Yeah, I was starting to think something was wrong as well.”
Lauren went to collage the next day, leaving Shadow in the house with Linda. When
Lauren got home she went straight into her bedroom.
“Hi Shadow, it was the last day of school today, got six weeks off.”
“Yeah, good.”
But Shadow was only half listening, she was thinking about Sam.
“Was Sam at collage today?” Shadow asked at last.
“No.” Lauren replied. “That’s bad isn’t it.”
“Very. She knows about me and how the necklace effects me. This is bad.”
But Sam never came round to try and  capture Shadow, which seemed strange to both
Lauren and Shadow. They started to get worried, Shadow had two people after her, Sam
and Harry. A week flew by, but nothing happened.
“Bye Lauren. Bye Shadow!” Linda shouted from the front door, “see you both
when I get back from work in about a week.”
They heard a door close.
“What does she mean a week?” Shadow asked.
“She’s going to America for some business there, so that’s why she said a
week.” 
“This is bad, very bad.” Shadow said while pacing the room, “your mum isn’t
here so they can just brake in!”
BANG!
“That sounds bad.” Lauren said.
The bedroom door suddenly burst open and Harry stepped into the room.
“So Shadow, we meet again.” He said, “I expected you to be at collage, holiday
is it.”
Two men rushed forward and grabbed Lauren.
“Leave her alone!” Shadow shouted.
But Harry ignored her.
“And now for you.”
He grabbed the box from the nearest person and opened it, there sat the beautiful
but deadly Galonite. Shadow collapsed onto the floor. Harry approached her and
showed her a dart.
“Do you know what this is?” He asked her, “no, well it’s a tranquilliser,
and because I have this.” He showed her the rock, “then it will work on you.”
He grabbed hold of Shadow’s arm and stuck the needle in. Shadow started to feel
drowsy, the last thing she saw was Lauren’s tearful face then some men crowding
round her. She fell into a deep sleep.

She woke up in the back of a truck. She just managed to sit up but she was a little
shaky.
“Shadow are you alright?” Came the sound of a familiar voice.
She then realised it was Lauren. She was relieved to know she was alive.
“Yes, I’m fine.” Shadow managed to say.
Even though really she knew she wasn’t.
The journey was long and bumpy. Every now and then someone would check up on them,
to make sure Shadow hadn’t escaped.
“I wonder where they’re taking us?” Lauren said.
“I don’t know but where ever it is, it can’t be good for me.” Shadow
replied.
They suddenly felt a jolt as the truck stopped at its destination. About a dozen men
pulled the cage, with Shadow in it, out of the truck, closely followed by Lauren. It
looked like an old warehouse but when you look inside you could tell it was a
laboratory. They pulled the cage into the centre of the room. Along with a smaller
one which they threw Lauren in. Harry walked up to the cage where Shadow was and
said;
“Did you have a nice trip? Just like past times isn’t it.”
All of the men started laughing. Then Harry raised a hand and they all fell silent.
He looked at his watch.
“Look at the time. It’s getting late. Come on guys, and we’ll see you in the
morning.”
Harry and the others left the room. Nether Lauren or Shadow spoke. After a few
minutes they heard several loud bangs and Lauren screamed.
“Lauren don’t worry. It was me, I blew up all the cameras so we can have some
privacy.”
Harry suddenly came storming in making Lauren jump.
“So you think you can blow all our cameras up? Well, you will have to be
punished.”
Harry showed Shadow what he had in his hand, it was the all too familiar box. He
placed it on a table which he put just out of reach of Shadow, then without warning
he opened it. Lauren looked towards Shadow and saw she had collapsed.
“Leave her alone!” Lauren shouted tearfully.
“Why should I! She’s an alien and we have a right to defend ourselves!” Harry
shouted over Shadow’s growls in pain, “you enjoy your present Shadow, bye.”
Harry left the room. All you could hear was Shadow growling in pain. Lauren just
managed to get to sleep but Shadow was in too much pain. Night time seemed to last
along time for Shadow.
“Morning Shadow, morning Lauren. Did you have a nice sleep?” Harry asked.
“Well it wasn’t for you, was it Shadow.”
Harry approached the cage right where Shadow lay.
“I don’t want you just yet. I would like to ask Lauren a few questions
first.”
“Leave her alone!” Shadow said weakly.
Harry ignored her. Shadow tried to stand up but Harry pushed her over again.
Everyone started to laugh. Then two men grabbed Lauren, she kicked and wriggled
about but couldn’t break free. Then everyone left the room. Shadow was scared,
scared for Lauren, hoping that they wouldn’t harm her. Shadow felt helpless and
guilty, she felt guilty because she knew that if she hadn’t have met Lauren this
wouldn’t have happened. Shadow was so weak that she couldn’t stand up, but she
kept on trying and trying. She finally realised that she was using all her energy.
She tried to listen for the sound of voices but she couldn’t hear any. She feared
more for Lauren, she tried not to think of the bad things they could be doing to
her. She shook her head to try to get rid of those ideas. She felt so weak she
drifted off o sleep.

Shadow woke up early in the morning. She looked round, then she looked at Lauren’s
cage, she saw Lauren asleep on a mattress. Shadow was feeling weaker. When Harry
entered the room Lauren woke up.
“Morning. Lovely day today, if only you could see. Shadow have you learned your
lesson?”
Shadow couldn’t find the words to speak, then she became still
“Shadow!” Lauren shouted.
Harry shut the box with the Galonite in it, then he walked into the cage and right
up to Shadow.
“Shadow?”
She didn’t move. Some men carried her out of the room, leaving Harry and Lauren
alone. Hours passed, Harry started pacing the room. It was nearly midnight when
someone came into the room. Lauren leaned against the bars to listen to what they
were saying.
“She’s going to be alright. She nearly died because she only had one heart
going, but she just made it. It looks like that rock can kill her.” The man said.
“I’ve also noticed that, when she’s infected by the Galonite her eyes are the
same colour as it. When her eyes are normally purple.”
The man said hat as soon as she comes round they will bring her back. He then turned
and left.

In the morning Lauren heard some people talking. She looked up and saw that they
were moving Shadow back. She didn’t look very happy. They threw her in the cage
and left. A few minuets later Harry entered the room. 
“You tried to kill me!” Shadow shouted.
“Calm down. I didn’t know that would happen.” Harry said. 
“Well, you could have asked me!” Shadow shouted back.
She staggered back still feeling weak. Harry stormed out of the room.
“Shadow do you feel okay?” Lauren asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Still a little weak though.” Shadow answered.
The next morning seemed to arrive very fast for Lauren and Shadow.
“Morning.” Harry said as he entered the room, “grab her.”
Shadow was expecting someone to grab a hold of her, but they went for Lauren
instead.
“Now Shadow. I want you to tell me all about you or she dies.”
“NO!!” Shadow shouted as she banged on the bars, “don’t hurt her!” She
roared.
Suddenly Shadow looked like she had set fire to herself, instead of fur it was fire
and instead of pupils she had fire in her eyes. Her claws grew very long, she
grabbed hold of the bars and they just melted away in her paws. Harry was terrified.
He ordered the men to put Lauren back, as soon as they backed away from Lauren,
Shadow turned back to normal. There was a moment of tension in the air. Harry had
his hand on the box and Shadow was at the door. Sadly Harry was quicker and Shadow
fell to the floor. They threw Shadow in with Lauren just until they fixed the cage.
“Harry, please shut the box you’re killing her.” Pleaded Lauren.
“No. She could have killed us!” He answered angrily.
“Yeah but I didn’t, did I. I never want to hurt anyone or anything, I’m not a
killer.” Shadow growled weakly, “and that thing with Jason was fake.”
“What! I won’t blame him. You’re dangerous and people need protecting against
you!”
Harry looked at the box then at Shadow, he left the box open and left the room. 
“Hand in there Shadow, everything’s going to be alright.” Lauren said
comforting Shadow.
Lauren didn’t go to sleep that night, she didn’t dare to because she wanted
Shadow to feel safe. Early that morning Lauren watched some men fix Shadow’s cage,
she was half falling asleep. She had left Shadow on her mattress because she thought
Shadow needed it more. When they had finished they threw Shadow back in the cage. An
hour passed, and Harry wondered into the room humming to himself. He walked to the
box, picked it up and shut it. He then walked to where Shadow was, with the box
still in his hand, and poked her awake.
“Can I ask you something? What other powers do you have?! Harry asked her, “and
if you don’t answer me I will just have to get the Galonite out.”
Shadow stared at him for a moment.
“I have every power you can ever think of but most of them I don’t know how to
use yet.” Shadow finally said.
“Really. That fire thing you did, there are three others, water, air and earth.
Did you know that?”
“No I didn’t.”
“Also there might be two others, light and dark but I bet you didn’t know
that.”
Harry walked away from Shadow and to one of the men. He whispered them something,
then Harry, that man and some others left and came back with a big machine. Harry
opened the cage door and ordered some men to grab Shadow. They got her and locked
her to a board. 
“This, Shadow,” Harry tapped the machine, “is like, a big electric shocker.
We’re going to test how high voltage you can stand.”
They lined the end of the shocked straight at Shadow then fired. Shadow had never
felt anything like it, it was liken grabbing the end of a high voltage wire. She
felt all her fur stand on end and one of her hearts skip a beat. Then they turned it
off.
“That was 900volts.” Harry said, “lets try 1200volts.”
Shadow braced herself, this time it felt the same but she also felt pain, only a bit
but still it could only get worse.
“Right. Final one for today, straight to 5000volts.”
Shadow couldn’t take it any longer, she concentrated hard. She looked like she had
nearly disappeared, what really happened was she turned into the element, air. Harry
and the others looked in amazement as she floated out of the bonds that were tying
her up. She then floated into Lauren’s cage, grabbed hold of her, she suddenly
turned into air like Shadow and they both flew out of an open window.
“Blast not again! Who keeps leaving a window  open!”
Both Lauren and Shadow flew home laughing to themselves, thinking of the look of
shock and anger on Harry’s face and thinking of that thy have escaped again.
