3 Things we need concerning prayer.

1. Faithfulness to God's will, above our own.

2. To be available.  Make time for God.  There is never going to be
enough time.

3. To be teachable.  Be willing to hear what God may have to say to you.

If anyone wants more of an explanation on these three crucial foundations of prayer,
then please read below.































1. Faithfulness to God's will above our own.  This is the simplest of the three, it
is exactly what it sounds like.  That if you know what is right and wrong and you
know what God would want you to do, then it is up to you to do it.  Disregard what
you want to do, for we are selfish in nature as well as we hate going outside
of our comfort zone.

2. Be available.  We always will make time in our day for what we find important. 
If you can make time to be on Kupika, then guess what.  You can make time to pray.

3. Be teachable.  I think we've all come across unteachable individuals.  Their
primary characteristic is that they don't listen.  They are quick to interrupt,
quick to argue, and quick to walk away.  They believe they are right and that anyone
who disagrees with them is wrong.  This is to be unteachable, because it is to be
unwilling to learn.  Often enough we see these people on political talk stations,
always interrupting one another, trying to shout their ideas over each other's.  Be
wary for those who are unwilling to listen.

So guess what?  We all need to approach not just God but also one another with a
heart that is willing to be taught.  Meaning that we are willing to listen, even if
we feel we know better.  For if we don't give others the chance to tell us anything,
then how can we expect them to give us the chance that we so eagerly denied them?  It
doesn't matter who's "right" or "wrong", for those are simply opinions.  We know well
enough that 2 people can hold different views on the same matter and both believe
that they are the one who's right.

Let me paint a better picture of who Moses was.  I would encourage you to read the
story yourself but here are some parts relevant to my point.  Moses was raised in a
very Godly minded family.  His parents were great Christians and exhibited amazing
faith(belief that the Lord will provide).  So, Moses also learned to love God and to
have faith in him.  When Moses was about 40 years old he had become well known in
Egypt and was a member of the Pharo's court.

as his parents were.  He sees this as his chance to show his people that he’s on
their side and ready to lead them out of slavery.  So.  He kills this Egyptian who
was beating the Hebrew.  But this plan backfires, as the Egyptians learn of what
happened and his people call him a murderer.  He flees far and lives for another 40
years herding sheep on the property of the man who’s daughter he marries.  (story
not over yet)

You see.  He thought he was doing what God wanted him to do.  Because killing the
Egyptian felt like the right thing to do at the time.  Its what he wanted to
do and so he did it, thinking that because he wanted to do it that God was
guiding him.  He took matters into his own hands and suffered the consequences.  It
is hard to know if God is trying to guide you or not.  I certainly find it
difficult.  

This goes into something I wanted to speak on. 

* Sometimes you are called to work for God in ways you do not love.  I may not love
doing something, but we are told we will be taken out of our comfort zones in God's
work.  We are Not to restrict ourselves to what we enjoy.  Some of you have
cleaned a toilet in the last week, or done homework.  Probably not because you love
doing it but because it needs to be done!  

Same thing with working for God.  How much work would we do if we only did what we
would enjoy? Go on, answer that question.

Heh… I loved this next example our pastor gave us.  Ever been with a small child
who says “ALL BY SELF!”  Meaning they want to do something on their own.  As
parents or siblings or adults, we know if that kid will be able to do it or not. 
Like the first time a kid tries to dress him or herself.  Heheh, we know that it
won’t turn out too well and that we’ll have to clean things up… but we can’t
talk the kid out of it :3 even if we’re right, the kid says “All by self! All by
self!”  So usually we’ll let him/her try.

Well..  When you or I try to do things on our own without God’s help.  Meaning we
try to handle something without praying or leaning on others.   It’s a lot like
being that child.  All by self!  We want to do it on our own and whether we feel we
can or not, we think we must do it alone or that we are alone.  And there’s
God, the father.  Watching us and knowing what’ll happen and knowing that we will
fail.  Yet he can’t talk us out of it.  We won’t listen and we try anyway.

That’s how it is…   When we think we don't need God, or even simply
forget to rely on him, we're like that child.

I’ll get back to the story of Moses another time.  This is the point I wanted to
make today.  That we won’t always see God’s plan, and we won’t always agree
with what we feel he’s allowing to happen to us or to others.  But we must
understand that we don’t see the whole picture…  Even when we feel we know
better than God, its an oxymoron.  God is God.  He’s everywhere, knows everything,
there is no such thing as focus with him.  Because he sees and hears everything at
the same time and with perfect clarity. 

He sees a fuller picture than any of us ever will.  And its time we take that to
heart.  Trust in God.  He seems to choose to provide in ways we don’t see coming,
as if reminding us further that we need not understand him for him to understand us.


* I know this is a pretty lame example, but it counts.  Every day at school I
usually go to the dorms to visit Janine and Christa.  The dorm area is fenced in on
all sides and you cannot get in unless you have a key.  Only residents have keys. 
So I have to wait until a resident lets me in, one who’s randomly walking this way
or that.  Its not an uncommon thing.   Not like I’m suspicious or whatnot.  Anyway,
every time I’m walking to the dorm I get a little apprehensive and sorta scope if
I’ll get there the same time someone else will so he/she can let me in without
them knowing I don’t have a key.  And each time I remember to have faith.  Even in
something this small.  So each time I don’t alter my step, I walk normally and
strait to the door.  God provides, even if I have to maybe stand and wait a little
bit, I always get in.

Well, it was late Thursday evening that I was walking to a door that isn’t often
used, at an obscure time.  And I really did wonder if I’d have to wait for 20
minutes to get in or have to text Janine to come open the door.  About the distance
of a block away (huge campus) I smiled and figured what the heck?  I’ll walk
normally and have faith, because if I do then things will work out.

I didn’t change anything, walked strait to the door.  The whole time from being a
block away there was no sign of people, and then what do you know?  A girl walks out
suddenly and holds the door open for me.  I did not have to slow down or speed up
even in the slightest.  

It may look like a coincidence.  But if that comes through your mind then I have to
tell you.  You believe what you choose to believe.  If you honestly want to think it
wasn’t a reward of faith because there wasn’t an angel or it wasn’t a serious
situation and that it was simply a coincidence, then you’ve already made up your
mind before I told the story.  But if you at least consider the possibility that in
a small way God was reaffirming the need for an unshaken faith, then I thank you. 
This touches on something I’ll cover next time as well.

Some of you are more passionate about animals or the environment than standing for
the cause of Christ.  God's creations are certainly not greater than Himself.

It is written that we to "Let your light shine so that others may see your good
deeds and praise your father in heaven."  In other words we are to show the example
of changed lives, lives improved and reborn because of God.  And that others are to
see how we are changed and know why.  So that they too can be drawn to having an
intimate relationship with God through his son Jesus.  I do want people to see that
I am a child of God and that I will stand firm in my faith, which is rooted in truth
and evidence, not merely faith.  I will not stand on a soap box and claim "I am
holier than thao" for my goal is to bring others to God, not chase them away.

I have thought it myself that "If I don't alter my course after giving my heart to
Him.  Do I still get to go to heaven?"  Which would be quite selfish.  For the
reason we are not blinked into heaven the moment we give our hearts to God is
because we are to do his work on Earth.  Part of giving your heart to God is to put
things in proper perspective.   

I cannot understand how anyone could come to know God without also having a desire
to change oneself in order to better share his gift of eternal life.  It is not my
place to judge who has a relationship with the Lord and how doesn't.  So I challenge
you personally today, not tomorrow, that if you call yourself Christian even in the
loosest of ways or the strictest of ways to pray about what God would have you do. 
We are to grow, to be challenged, to work, and to be taken outside of our comfort
zone.  It stinks, yes, but its worth it.

None of us are here by mistake, we are here by design.

Believe it or not, posting notes doesn't get any easier :/  

This set of notes is based a bit on Father's day which was a week ago.  The story
focused on here was that of Abraham and Issac in Genesis 22.  In short, Abraham was
told to take his one and only son Issac to a mountain and to build an alter to
sacrifice him for God.  God had previously promised Abraham that His descendants
will outnumber the grains of sand on the beach.  And that certainly could not happen
if his only son were killed.  Yet he did take his son and the wood for the burning of
an offering to the very mountain God had told him to travel to.  He Laid his son, who
was nearly at the age of marriage at the time onto the alter and told him precisely
what God had said to him.  His son did not fight, but accepted God's decision.  Then
God told Abraham that he had been tested and passed.  For Issac was the most

Abraham truly believed that if he was told to sacrifice his son that God would
resurrect him, for he keeps his promises.  

For you, what is the easiest thing you know of that may supersede God?  Meaning what
thing or person might you place as a higher importance than him?  Yes, I would like
to hear it.  For me, it would be my dear Amanda.  For just as with Abraham, I count
her as a great gift from God and it IS easy for me to place her as a higher
importance.  Never have I said "Honey you are more important to me than God"  But
indeed I have given her more attention than him and even avoided his mention at
times in order to spend time with her.  

For some of you, it could be yourself, your family, music, whatever person or thing
it is that you hold most important.  None should take the place of God in your life.
 

We are to do as Abraham did.  Taking our most important thing to our place of God,
our hearts, and to KNOW that God's love in our lives is more important than all
else.  Not just to say so, but also to back it up with our actions.

God is to be made the priority in our lives.  I still struggle daily with that. 
There ARE times for ballgames instead of church or sometimes a vacation.   But when
God is not the most important in your life, it shows.

Lead your kids to model your faith.  Do not expect perfection from them of from
yourselves.  Our children will see who is king in our lives, do not doubt that. 

Are we modeling that we live for the king?  I am thankful for the relationship my
father has with me and with the Lord.  I do wish to someday live up to his example. 
I truly hope that as you all walk away from your computers that there are no barriers
between yourselves and God.

Take that which is hardest for you to give up.  It is also the easiest thing to
replace God with.  And in your heart I want you to give it to him.  It doesn't mean
you can no longer enjoy it, but at all times you will know and act that God is more
important.
