Gyaru is a Japanese style with a few fairly different sub-styles within.
The main styles of GAL require the wearer to be up-to-date with current Shibuya fashion, usually be tanned, have nails
decorated, and especially have the right hair and face make! Since the style is so fashion-orientated, there's no real
trademark to identify a gal by her clothes. Look for what's in fashion in Shibuya
right now, and voila!
Many western gals will look at what's in fashion in Shibuya and head down to their local stores to look for similar
things, others are lucky enough to live in or around the Shibuya locale and are able to pick up Japan-brand name items.
It
is OK to be out of Japanese brand, but it
is NOT OK to be out of fashion!
Some sub-styles are less strict on keeping up with general fashion, and will instead demand a specific applique, print
or cut to be considered part of said sub-style. All styles demand proper use of make-up, and almost all will highly
encourage fresh nails: gels, acryllics, deco or simply painted. Which is most appropriate will depend on which
sub-style you're going for.
