Are you a budding author who can always start a story, but never finishes it?
Or maybe you finish it, but it just seems a bit too short to be a real novel?
Perhaps you just need the push of a deadline to help you write the next literary masterpiece?
Never fear! Some years ago, a guy in California came up with the great idea to take
a month out of the year and tell people just to write a novel! The idea really too off,
and now there are thousands and thousands of people who take part in this every
year! It happens every year in November, and there's even a website for it!
The program is called NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. People all around
the world participate, and there's even a part of the site where you can find people
that live in your region that are participating! People of all ages write with this non-profit
program, and there's a special branch of it for young writers 12 and under. Some people
have even managed to get their novels written for this month, or NaNo Novels as they're called,
published!
Your goal, should you choose the take part, is to write a 50,000 word novel by the end
of Nevember. You start on the first, no cheating, and you have to have 50,000 words
written by midnight local time on the 30. Your novel can be more than 50,000 words,
but no less, unless you are in the Young Writers Program, and there you choose your word limit.
The story can be any genre, so if you believe that you're writing a novel then they do too. There's
no chance of plagerism, because when you submit your work for word counting you can scramble it.
It's safe, and I plan on writing a novel in November. I'd be happy to see anyone from Kupika there,
working on their novel too!
