Chapter One
It was cold and raining… someone was in the shadows, they coolly said “you will become one” then
vanished…
Carralynn sat up with a start. Drenched in sweat she wiped it away from her eyes and stood up. She was a short thing,
about 4’9 and wouldn’t get much taller. Her platinum blond hair was down to her elbows and straight. She had bright
ocean-blue eyes that shone in the daylight coming from the corridor. Her skin was a light-tan in color. She walked over
to the window and opened the shutters, it was a beautiful day out, with children laughing and playing around, with
their parents watching contently. Carralynn walked away from the window and got into her breeches. Carralynn didn’t
like dresses very much. She walked downstairs and overheard some yelling that she couldn’t quite understand coming
from the kitchen. When she slowly walked in her uncle was supposedly having a ‘creative discussion’ with their
cook. When they saw her they stopped abruptly and looked at her. “What?” Carralynn asked. She didn’t appreciate
being stared at for to long. Carralynn’s uncle sat down and gestured to her to sit next to him. She obeyed but
wondered why he wanted her to sit down. “We have some… terrible news for you I’m afraid.” Her uncle sighed.
“We cannot afford to keep you here any longer.” “WHAT?!? WHY?!? “She shouted. Her anger already getting roused
up. Her cheeks turned red in anger. “We don’t have enough money. You’re going to have to go to The Temple City
and become a proper lady.” “I DON’T WANNA BE A LADY! I would be much happier as a pirate!!” She yelled
outraged, she stood up, crossed her arms, and stomped her feet. “I know you’re upset Carralynn but…” “UPSET?
NO! I am far past upset! I’m outraged and disgusted!” She whispered shrilly, clearly not able to hold her temper
much longer. By now the cook had left the room to give Carralynn and her uncle some privacy. “Now that your five
years of age, it is time for you to move on, Carralynn of Marynnight!” Her uncle had raised his voice, obviously
getting irritated by her ‘talking back’. “FINE! BUT I AM NOT HAPPY WITH IT UNCLE!!” Shrieked Carralynn, she
stormed out of the room and stomped up the stairs. You could her room door slam from upstairs. Her uncle sighed as the
cook came in again. “She’ll calm down by tomorrow when she needs to start packing.” He said, calming down.
“Carralynn! Come here please!” Carralynn’s uncle bellowed up the stairs. “Coming uncle!” She yelled.
Carralynn hurried down the steps almost tripping half way down. “Yes?” She panted. “Start packing, I have to send
you off to The Temple City today.” Her uncle sympathetically said. “Fine….” Carralynn whined. She walked slowly
back up the stairs.
“I don’t wanna be a lady though…” Carralynn muttered to herself as she got out her bags. She packed her other
pairs of breeches, all her dresses (because she knew she would need them at some point in time), her pajamas, her
washing utensils, and her hair brush. She walked sulking down the stairs and got onto her pony. Her uncle tied the rope
to her pony’s reins and on to his horse’s reins so that he could lead the pony. He then got onto his horse and
started riding with the pony following close behind.
