I was born February 23, 1994 in Conyers, Georgia to Joy and Steve
Fanning. The name Hannah was Mom's choice, Dad provided that I would
become their daughter's professional appellation. I enjoyed play
acting around the house from about the time I could walk. I attended
a playhouse near my home, where the children performed a play for
their parents each week. The directors of the playhouse noticed that
I stood out, and advised my parents to take me to an agency. My
parents subsequently took me to Los Angeles, where I quickly found
work in a nationally aired commercial for Tide detergent, a role I
won from among many hopefuls. A part on ER soon came my way, followed
by appearances on CSI, The Practice, Spin City, and Malcolm in the
Middle. I also played the childhood versions of the title characters
in Ally McBeal and The Ellen Show. In 2001, at age seven, I won the
major role of Sean Penn's daughter in I am Sam, the story of a
mentally challenged man fighting for custody of his child. The role
earned me the distinction of becoming the youngest person ever to be
nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. More film roles followed,
including a kidnap victim in Trapped, the childhood version of Reese
Witherspoon's character in Sweet Home Alabama and Katie in Hansel and
Gretel. In 2003 I played the uptight germ phobic child of Heather
Locklear's character in Uptown Girls, and Sally in Cat in the Hat
with Mike Myers. In 2004, I wrapped filming of Dreamer, with Kurt
Russell and went directly to the set of War of the Worlds with Tom
Cruise. I played the daughter of each of the legendary actors in
these two films. Despite all my success, I still finds time to be a
little girl. I am home schooled, and is a member of the Girl Scouts.
I demonstrated my irresistible cookie selling technique for Jay Leno
on The Tonight Show. I enjoys the company of her little sister, Elle,
who was born in 1998 and is a budding actress herself, sometimes
playing the childhood version of me. Among the gifts I have received
from my fellow actors is a palomino horse from Kurt Russell that I
named Goldie. Tom Cruise gave me a cell phone, much to my parents'
chagrin. I have two film credits to my name in 2005, The Secret Life
of Bees and Coraline. I'm  also rumored to be starring in a remake of
the classic children's tale Alice in Wonderland. With so much critical
and popular acclaim, i'm bound to be entertaining movie going
audiences for some time to come.
